BLOG: Spring Weather Remains Elusive

"Where is spring???"
I have heard this frenzied exclamation over and over in the past week. The chilly weather is providing lots of fodder for talk in the grocery store aisles, on Twitter and on the playgrounds. Sure, we are only a week and a half into spring, but "Still!" we cry, "We were in the seventies a few weeks ago! When is it coming back?!"
The sad but true answer to that, friends, is "not anytime soon."
Sure, we'll have a few nice days sprinkled here and there, but the overall pattern for the next couple of weeks shows that spring continues to be stalled across the Northeast and, to add insult to injury, April 1st may even boast a few snowflakes. The old adage "April showers bring May flowers" better be right, because the first week of April looks showery to say the least!
Today's forecast is A-OK despite being below average for the time of year - a weak down-sloping flow will help us warm back into the 50's, a place we haven't seen in a while. But today will be the nicest day of the week, despite the chill -- tomorrow, after a sunny start, the clouds roll through as another weak, nuisance system slips by to the south (try saying "system slips stealthily to the south" five times fast, if you're bored). This could bring us some flurries or drizzle overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning, but shouldn't be a big deal.
The bigger deal comes late Thursday into Friday, as a storm is predicted to ride up the Eastern seaboard and deliver a decent slog of rain (and, if you believe some of the computer models, even the chance for some snow). I think this will start as rain on Thursday night, possibly mix over with some snow Friday morning, and then change back to all rain and taper off as we head into Friday afternoon. For those of you holding Opening Day tickets, it will be showery and cloudy at CBP, but I think we'll get the game in.
The weekend looks pretty docile - a little windy on Saturday, more seasonable with sunshine on Sunday, but then we start the unsettled pattern all over again with the chance for rain next Monday.
