BLOG: Final Week Of Winter Looks Mild

By Justin Drabick

What a nice weekend overall across the Delaware Valley with sunshine and highs in the mid 50s on Saturday and low 50s on Sunday.

The average high for this time of year is 50 degrees. We will keep things on the quiet side for the start of the work week. A weak cold front will wash out to our north bringing a few clouds but will allow a cool high pressure system to move in on Monday.

Highs on Monday will be cooler in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees with sunshine. High pressure remains in control over the Northeast on Tuesday allowing sunshine to start but then clouds filter in ahead of the next storm system. Highs on Tuesday will make it into the low to mid 50s.

An area of low pressure will approach the Delaware Valley late Tuesday night from the southwest. This storm will be a rain maker but nothing like the prior two storms. Showers should arrive early Wednesday AM and continue through the afternoon with temperatures in the 50s.

Early rain estimates are around a half and inch across the Delaware Valley. Right now, 12 hour flood guidance is 1.3" for Philadelphia and near that for surrounding areas in PA and over 2.5" for NJ and DE.

That means if it rains over those amounts in 12 hours, small stream flooding would begin to occur. As of now, it looks like we remain well below flood guidance with this next system.

St. Patrick's Day looks stellar with sunshine and highs in the 60s. Southwesterly winds begin to build for Friday ahead of a cold front. If we see enough sunshine highs should make it to 70 degrees or higher! Some clouds and the chance for a spotty shower is possible Friday night as the front moves overhead.

The weekend remains dry with highs on the 50s both Saturday and Sunday with sunshine. Spring officially arrives Sunday night at 7:21 PM. It also looks like the first week of spring starts off on the mild side in the 60s.
