BLOG: Breaking Records
By Kate Bilo,
After a nice start to the morning, things are going to change in a big way later tonight and tomorrow.
But first, the good news! Are you sick of the snow this winter? The combo of this winter and last marks only the second time in Philadelphia's history that we've had back to back winters with 40+ inches of snow. The last time was in the late 70's! Well, if you're as tired of snow as I am, you'll like this next storm - it's going to bring only rain to the Philadelphia area. The problem is, it'll be a heavy rain and winds are going to be a major player as well.
The rain will begin this evening as showers, but heavy rain will move through tomorrow morning and into the early afternoon. Skies MAY try to clear a bit tomorrow afternoon, especially off to our south, which could allow temperatures to nudge up near 60. Then, a line of showers and thunderstorms will develop off to the west and could make it across our area in the afternoon. A High Wind Watch has been issued for tomorrow, an indication that winds could gust over 50 mph in the afternoon - strong enough to bring down tree branches and power lines. Tomorrow, in short, looks very nasty.
We'll clear it out for the start of the weekend - Saturday's highs in the 40s and it'll be sunny. A storm passes by to the North on Sunday, delivering just the chance of a stray rain or snow shower, but then out next storm arrives Monday with warm air and another round of rain and the potential for thunderstorms! Whew, the active pattern continues!
Stay dry and safe out there tomorrow.
