By Jim Donovan: With the summer travel season in full swing, CardHub today released its 2015 Travel Insurance Report, which examines the coverage that the most popular credit cards provide for things like trip interruptions, lost luggage and accidents.
Illness and natural disasters alone interfere with 1 in 6 Americans' travel plans, while only 22% of those impacted have the necessary travel insurance coverage, so it certainly pays to explore your options.
Here are some of the CardHub findings:
• Accident and luggage coverage are both common components of the travel insurance provided by rewards credit cards, being offered by 88% and 63% of the cards reviewed, respectively.
• More than 1 in 5 (23%) of credit cards offering travel accident insurance provide benefit amounts in excess of $300,000.
• Among the cards offering luggage insurance, 73% provide coverage for lost luggage, 45% cover delayed luggage and 18% cover both.
