Bin Laden Death Brings Back Horrors of 9/11 For Philadelphia's Top Cop
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia police commissioner Charles Ramsey, who was the police chief in Washington, DC on September 11th, 2001, says he had trouble sleeping last night after hearing the news about Osama Bin Laden's death (see related stories) because it brough back unpleasant memories of that chaotic and traumatic day nearly a decade ago.
Ramsey, who was on the scene at the Pentagon in the hours after the September 11th attack, says he was surprised by the news of Bin Laden's death.
"I was surprised, but also relieved that finally this particular chapter in the war on terror has been brought to an end -- although we all know that it continues," he says.
And with the news, Ramsey says he took certain strategic security steps with his department -- although he adds that no threats have come to the attention of law enforcment.
"Well, people should go about their regular business, regular routine, continue to visit, continue to do whatever," he advises, "because there is nothing to indicate they shouldn't do that. It's just that we need to be aware."
Be aware because, he notes, 9/11 changed everything, and not everyone is celebrating news of Bin Laden's death.
