Billy Beane Discusses 'Moneyball' Principles At Free Villanova Seminar Friday
By Ian Bush
VILLANOVA, Pa. (CBS) - 'Moneyball' is a blockbuster film about the success of a down-on-its-luck baseball team found with statistics. Now, the story is coming to Villanova University -- in the form of an all-star panel.
Brad Pitt won't be at the Pavilion, but the man he portrayed will.
"Mr. Moneyball himself, Billy Beane."
Villanova School of Law Dean John Gotanda says the GM of the Oakland A's joins Jeffrey Moorad and Omar Minaya from the San Diego Padres and MSNBC president Phil Griffin.
The panel will be moderated by former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell.
Gotanda says they'll talk of how the principles of 'Moneyball' transcend sports.
"It really is about having to do a lot with a little -- being creative, being thoughtful, as well as using analytics."
The free event is at noon on Friday.
