Big Snow In The Region Gets National Attention
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The first big snow event in the region garnered nationwide attention and it included a visit from someone who just loves following bad weather.
Jim Cantore of The Weather Channel took up a position on Independence Mall at Fifth and Market streets early Monday but Cantore said that's not where he expected to be. His assignment was to be covering the Eagles-Vikings game in what would have been an old-fashioned "Snow Bowl" at the Linc, but that was not to be.
"I love football in its purest form," Cantore said, "And that is out in the snow, out in the elements, out in the cold, the way it's supposed to be played. But you know, I really have to side with the NFL because of the fact that the weather was bad before the game and after the game just like it was forecast to be."
Cantore, who has seen just about everything in his 25 years doing the weather, said it never gets old. "I grew up in Vermont, playing outdoors. Quite frankly, this is just an extension of my childhood."
He adds it's a bonus that he gets paid to do what he does for a living.
