RIDLEY PARK, Pa., (CBS) -- An 18-year-old on a bicycle was struck and injured by a pick-up truck Monday night in Delaware County. The truck then fled the scene.
This happened shortly before 11 p.m. at Chester Pike and West Sellers Avenue.
The victim, identified by police as Christopher Brooks, is in critical condition, in surgery at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
Christine O'Brien heard the crash from inside her home. She says it sounded like two cars colliding.
"It was loud. He had to have known he hit something."
The vehicle that hit him is believed to be a silver or gray pick-up truck, an older model -- possibly 1997-2003, with damage to the front end. The truck was traveling west on Chester Pike. Police say the only thing they recovered from the truck at the scene was a broken bug deflector.
Police do have surveillance video of the incident and preliminary investigation shows the truck was likely speeding when it hit Brooks.
Investigators are working on getting a better description of the truck, and better video images, but for now they say it might be a Ford, Chevy or Toyota.
