Bensalem Man Held In String Of Bucks County Pharmacy Robberies
By Brad Segall
BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) -- Authorities in Bucks County say the man who has been terrorizing the owners of mom-and-pop pharmacies in the lower part of the county is now behind bars after an investigation by local police and the feds.
Police say they had good surveillance shots of the bandit who used a knife during four armed robberies at pharmacies in Bensalem, Lower Southampton and Warminster.
Police arrested 28-year-old Peter Romagano of Stanwood Lane in Bensalem in connection with the robberies along the Street Road corridor.
Bensalem Public Safety Director Fred Harran says Romagano was going after prescription medications either to sell on the street or to fuel his own addiction.
"He's in the drug world, so if he is in demand for the drugs himself he'll stop at nothing until he gets the drugs," notes Harran. "And eventually he may have gotten a pharmacist that would have confronted him, and it could have been fatal for that individual."
Police say he even hit one pharmacy twice between late October and late November of last year.
He's being held in lieu of $200,000 bail.
