Bensalem Ban On Cell Phone Use While Driving Takes Effect
BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) - Don't tweet on Street Road. As of today, Bensalem Township is banning certain cell phone use while driving.
An ordinance passed last week took effect today. Bensalem Public Safety Director Fred Harran explains.
"You can't use your cellphone unless you have a hands-free device like a Bluetooth, and no more texting, emailing, anything to do with some sort of communication device is now forbidden in Bensalem Township. And if the police see you doing that and there's another violation being committed, you'll be stopped and written a citation, and it could get very expensive."
Like $300 for phone or device use while driving, plus whatever the primary infraction was.
Harran doesn't know if the township will put up signs to that effect, but there are none now. Harran says drivers shouldn't text no matter where they're driving.
