Ben Revere: 'We're Going To Find Our Way Back To The Playoffs, I Promise'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It probably won't go down like Jimmy Rollins' famous "team to beat" proclamation, but Ben Revere made a pledge to Phillies fans on Friday: the playoffs.

"I'm just trying to come in here and try get a ring like those guys did," Revere told 94WIP's Michael Barkann and Ike Reese on Friday.  "I'm just trying to work my tail off. So, just staying healthy and just do what we do. We're going to find our way back to the playoffs, I promise you that."

Revere started slowly in 2013, his first season with the Phillies, but got hurt just as he started to heat up. Revere hit just .200 in March and April, but then .312 in May, .354 in June, and .388 in July. He wants to regain that momentum this season.

"It was a slow start in April, you know, trying to learn---come into a new league," Revere said. "Kinda felt like a rookie again, learning new stadiums, learning new pitchers. I have a feeling though, I'd be up there maybe at .320, kinda find my stroke. I was seeing pitches good and everything, not for myself, for my team. We were a few games behind the Braves with the hot start they had and it's just---I think they kind of felt it. We did too. The team was rolling, everybody was hitting well. It was a bummer, but I think my average definitely would have been up there at .315, .320, maybe more."

Jimmy Rollins drew criticism this Spring with his "who cares" comment, regarding the team's struggles at the plate. Revere seems to think things will work themselves out.

"I know everybody has been freaking out about the way we've been hitting this Spring, but you know, some of these games we've just been hitting the crap out of the ball, just right at people," he said.  "The last couple of days we've kinda been finding our strokes and everything---[Ryan] Howard has too, but you know, I thought everyone thinks the aging is something that people want to deal with, but I think it's going to work out in our favor just because we have the experience and we got good guys in this clubhouse, on this team, to lead us."
