Basketball: Fran Dunphy Hires Dwayne Killings as a Temple Owls Assistant Coach
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Dwayne Killings, who spent last season as an assistant at Boston University under Patrick Chambers (now Penn State's new basketball coach -- see related story), has joined Fran Dunphy's staff as an assistant with the Temple Owls.
Killings is no stranger to North Broad Street. From 2006 to 2009 he was Temple's assistant director of men's basketball operations. And he says he is happy to be back.
"Temple always felt like home to me," Killings told KYW Newsradio. "Coach was great to me, the staff was, everybody on campus was. It was a great experience here and as soon (Coach Dunphy) extended the opportunity to me, it was a no-brainer. The opportunity to work for Coach Dunphy is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. He does amazing things on and off the court. I'm happy to be here, I'm really looking forward to it."

What does he think he brings to the Owls staff?
"I think I've been very fortunate to meet a lot of people in this business. I've had an opportunity to experience a lot of different things that I think the kids will value, both on the court and off, and will help them be not only better basketball players but better young men," he said. "Also, I've learned a lot, both about the game of basketball and about the business. I have developed really good, solid ties that I think are very important to recruiting, which is a huge part of what we do. I'm really excited to be here and represent the university in the best way I can."
Killings played college basketball at the University of Massachusetts before transferring to Hampton University, where he earned his degree in sports management.
Temple went 26-8 last season, beating Penn State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, before losing to San Diego State.
