Police: Man Taken Into Custody After West Oak Lane Barricade
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police say a male has been taken into custody following a barricade situation in Philadelphia's West Oak Lane neighborhood.
Police say the father of seven children touched off a barricade situation when he came to the front of his home and waved what appeared to be a gun.
Police and SWAT team officers surrounded the home on the 1800 block of 67th Avenue.
It all started just after 7 p.m. Monday.
A DHS worker, according to police, arrived with a court order to remove two children from the home.
As the children were leaving, police say the father then appeared at the top of the steps waiving what was believed to be a handgun.
"Being brandished for her to see, obviously to intimidate her, and he directed those two children to return back into the house," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Joseph Sullivan.
Police say the children were able to get out of the house.
The man was taken into custody, according to police.
It turns out the gun he was waiving, according to police, was a replica berretta.
The seven children all were not injured.
Philadelphia Police say the incident was reported at about 7:17 p.m. Monday at 67th Avenue.
Seven children are out of the home, according to police.
Police say a weapon was recovered.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
