Bank Underwrites Constitution Center Program To Help Kids Understand Government Finance
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The charitable arm of an area bank is giving a large grant to the National Constitution Center, on Independence Mall, for two special financial-themed program days for Philadelphia schoolkids.
The first day of the program, called "Building Strong Citizenship," was taking place today.
A group of 8th graders from the Belmont Academy Charter School was on hand (above) when the Citizens Bank Foundation presented a ceremonial $100,000 check to David Eisner, CEO of the Constitution Center.
Eisner (holding check at right in photo) says 2,000 students will be engaged in wall-to-wall programming on government finance.
"From the role of Alexander Hamilton and the First Bank of the United States, to America today and the role of fiscal policy in each branch of government," he said. "And we believe that students are going to be learning the connections between fiscal policy and their role as citizens."
The second "Building Strong Citizenship" day is scheduled to take place on June 4th.
