FBI: Bank Robbery Suspect Shot By Off-Duty Cop In Berks County
WYOMISSING, Pa. (CBS) – A would-be bank robber was shot by an off-duty officer in Berks County early Monday morning, police said.
The incident happened at about 10:30 a.m. at the M&T Bank located at Penn and 8th Avenues in Wyomissing.
According to the FBI, the suspect walked into the bank with a device strapped to his body and announced a hold-up.
An off-duty officer intervened and wrestled the suspect to the ground. During the struggle, the suspect was reportedly shot in the chest.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital in an unknown condition.
The off-duty officer was not injured.
Investigators say the device the suspect had strapped to his body was not real.
The incident remains under investigation.
