Baby Shower For Baby Noel Goes Off Without A Hitch In Philadelphia
By Cherri Gregg
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The community came together at the West Poplar Apartments on Thursday for a baby shower to support Baby Noel. The five-and-a-half pound newborn baby girl was found in a box in North Philadelphia just days before Christmas.
"I was really overwhelmed, and I was just saddened by the incident," said Keisha Browning, a mother and caregiver for children with special needs.
She says when she heard about Baby Noel, she had to do something to welcome her into the world.
"I got on Facebook. I told some of my friends, I said, 'Let's have a baby shower for the baby.' There were so many people. Everyone dropped off gifts, cards. They sat around and ate, we talked."
Donors came from all over the area bearing gifts such as a bassinet, clothes, bottles, toys, bibs, diapers and more.
"I just had a newborn baby; she'll be three months," said Nissy, who traveled from the Logan section of Philadelphia. "It just broke my heart that someone would throw away a baby. A newborn."
"I have daughters that I guard, plus I am a grandfather," said Andre Adger. He took a two hour bus ride from Wildwood, New Jersey to show his support for the newborn. "We have to reach out for all of our children, and this is one of those occasions."
Browning said she will donate all of the items collected at the shower to DHS.
