Baby Found In Front Of Abandoned House In Delaware, Mother Facing Charges
NEW CASTLE, Del (CBS) – Police have arrested a woman after she allegedly abandoned her child on the sidewalk.
On Wednesday around 2:10 p.m., Newark police received a report of a baby left in a car seat on the sidewalk in front of an abandoned house.
When the officers arrived on the scene, they saw the infant and learned from a resident that a white female wearing shorts and a multi-colored shirt was last seen walking away from the infant.
Based on the information provided, police were able to identify the child's mother as Abbie Arms, a 24-year-old from the 200 block of North Patrice Drive in the Glasgow Court Trailer Park located in Newark. Arms was arrested at her home, where she admitted she had been sitting under a tree when she became distracted by a phone call. She then left the area after hearing that fight was going to occur there, forgetting about the baby.
The baby was transported to Christiana Medical Center and admitted for observation. The Division of Family Services (DFS) was contacted and took custody of the baby.
Arms was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and was released on a $250 unsecured bail.
