Beaches Back Open After Sand Cliffs Formed In Avalon

AVALON, N.J. (CBS) --- Beaches are back open this morning after erosion created sand cliffs on the Jersey Shore.

The dangerous drop-offs forced the closure of a stretch of shoreline in Avalon over the weekend.

The cliffs were about 5 feet high and they stretched for about a mile.

For two days, strong northeast winds hit the sand hard. Beach patrol had to shut down a section of the north end until crews could re-grade the sand and smooth things out.
