Authorities: Shooting Of Machete-Wielding Man In Allentown Justified
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in eastern Pennsylvania have concluded an officer-involved fatal shooting of a machete-wielding man was justified.
Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said Friday that no criminal charges are warranted against police in the death of 44-year-old Saturnino Perez De La Rosa of Allentown on Feb. 21 (see related story).
Martin says the man began threatening officers with a machete and was hit several times with a stun gun, but it appeared to have no effect. The two officers fired, killing De La Rosa.
The victim's family has criticized police for their actions, saying De La Rosa was schizophrenic and often heard voices and saw hallucinations.
