Authorities Searching For Missing Brown Student From Bryn Mawr

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (CBS/AP) — Brown University says the search for a missing student who was last seen on campus a week ago is now expanding outside Providence to Philadelphia, Boston, Connecticut and New York.
Sunil Tripathi is a philosophy major at Brown who grew up on Bryn Mawr, Pa. and graduated from Radnor High School. He has been living in Providence since 2008. He was on approved leave from the Ivy League school.
The 22-year-old was last seen the morning of March 15th in his apartment near the Providence Rhode Island campus.
His sister, Sangeeta Tripathi says the following day, family and friends knew something was wrong because Sunil hadn't answered several phone calls.
"His best friend tried to get into his room and was worried because this was so atypical and came in and found all of his belongings and found a note that is very, very short and very vague and does not provide any information at all," says Sangeeta.
The night before he went missing, Sangeeta says her brother spoke with a good friend, his grandmother and his aunt and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Brown spokeswoman Darlene Trew Crist says in a statement released Saturday that Providence and Brown police departments are leading the missing person investigation.
The search for Tripathi focused on the greater Providence area over the last six days, including distribution of flyers, physically searching various neighborhoods and soliciting for information through social media sites.
Tripathi is six feet tall and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black ski jacket, glasses and a wool hat.
