Police Capture Escaped Work Release Offender, Charge Him With Burglary And Resisting Arrest
WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) – Authorities say they've found a work release offender who escaped in Wilmington, Delaware Tuesday morning.
Chopper 3 was over the scene of Governor Printz Boulevard and Cauffiel Parkway on Tuesday, where 25-year-old Isaiah Thompson left his work crew without authorization from the Plummer Community Corrections Center.
He was serving a sentence for an attempted carjacking conviction.
On Wednesday around 2:23 a.m., New Castle County police responded to the 1100 block of Carr Road in Wilmington for a 911 hang-up call. Officers found a security guard who took them through part of the First Data facility, but they did not see any signs of a break-in or suspicious activity.
Around 3:45 a.m., an additional 911 call was received after police say the same security guard saw an unknown suspect crawl through a broken door on surveillance footage.
When police arrived at the scene, the suspect, Isaiah Thompson, reportedly assaulted officers. He was eventually taken into custody.
Thompson is now facing additional charges of burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and offensive touching of a law enforcement officer.
