Authorities Investigating Reports Of Methacton Students Arriving At Prom Drunk
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - Authorities in Montgomery County confirm they are investigating allegations of underage drinking leading up to Methacton High School's prom this past weekend.
Police aren't divulging any details about what happened Saturday night at the Valley Forge Convention Center in King of Prussia, but reports indicate as many as three dozen students may have shown up at the prom drunk.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating, but Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman confirms her office is also part of the probe.
"Our primary focus in the investigation is, first, the adults who may provide the alcohol to these minors," she told KYW Newsradio. "That is a crime, and that is a crime for which someone can be arrested and punished."
A number of parents showed up at Tuesday night's school board meeting to find out how the district was planning to discipline the students who allegedly didn't follow the rules.
Ferman's office has been very proactive about the dangers of drinking and driving, holding assemblies for high school students to hammer home the message.
