Authorities Investigate 2 Fatal Fires in New Castle County
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Authorities are investigating two deadly fires Thursday in New Castle County, Delaware.
At 1:50 p.m., firefighters responded to a home in the 300 block of Tamara Circle in Newark.
The Mill Creek Fire Company responded to the blaze along with assisting neighboring fire companies. Investigators say firefighters found one person deceased inside the split level home.
No other injuries were reported.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
Flames heavily damaged the left side of the home. According to investigators, damage is estimated at $100,000.
The American Red Cross is assisting two surviving family members.
The fire remains under investigation.
Thursday morning, investigators say firefighters were called to a home around 4:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Artwin Road in Wilmington.
The Talleyville Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the rear of the one story home.
Investigators say firefighters discovered one person deceased inside. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
Heavy fire damage is estimated at $300,000.
No other injuries were reported.
The fire remains under investigation. Officials will determine if there were operating smoke alarms inside the home.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office says the two fatal fires are not related.
