Authorities Identify 13-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot In Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., (CBS) – Authorities have identified the 13-year-old boy who they say was fatally shot during an altercation Wednesday afternoon in Atlantic City.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office has identified the victim as Angel Mercado-Santiago, of Atlantic City.

On Wednesday at about 3 p.m., Atlantic City Police responded to the scene of a shooting near the intersection of Route 30 and Virginia Avenue (See Related Story).

Upon arrival, officers found two teen males, ages 13 and 15, suffering from gunshot wounds. Authorities say Mercado-Santiago was shot in the chest and the second victim was shot in the leg.

Both victims were transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus.

Authorities say Mercado-Santiago was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 15-year-old victim is expected to survive.

This homicide is under investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department.

No arrests have yet been made.
