Authorities Bring a Sobering Drunk-Driving Message to West Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police and road-safety advocates are trying to drive home a simple holiday message: don't drive drunk.
It's a sobering scene inside the trailer at 36th and Walnut Streets, on the University of Pennsylvania campus: a memorial list of 2,500 people who have died in drunk-driving crashes in Pennsylvania.
Outside the trailer, Penn junior Christine Antoniou (below) was trying to walk while wearing goggles that simulate drunkenness. She admitted to being a little scared.
"I think you'd have to be stupid to try to drive if you've been drinking, so I saw something I already knew," she told KYW Newsradio.

"Unfortunately, we think that we're invulnerable at this age," notes Penn police chief Mark Dorsey, "and we're letting them know that there are consequences that, if you're not able to maintain yourself, that you could do something that you ordinarily wouldn't do."
Police, AAA, and Penndot were on campus to reinforce the message that Thanksgiving is a busy travel time, and that drivers of any age should stay sober.
