Auditors Say Losses Higher At Stores With Self-Checkouts
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Self-checkout lanes at retailers like supermarkets are extremely popular with shoppers but auditors say they're also more popular with crooks.
They say "unexplained loss" was 170 percent higher in stores with self-scanning devices compared to stores with normal checkouts.
But experts say it may not be intentional theft but mistakes made by shoppers.
