Attempted TD Bank Robbery Under Investigation in Montgomery County
By Tim Jimenez
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Authorities in Montgomery County are investigating an attempted armed bank robbery in Abington Township.
Police say they responded at 6:45 a.m. to the T.D. Bank on the 2900 block of West Moreland Road.
According to police, a man rushed up to the bank when two employees arrived to open up for the day.
Investigators report that the employees closed and locked the doors to prevent the suspect from getting in, but the gunman shot the door, shattering it.
The suspect then allegedly grabbed and dragged one employee to the back, while the other employee was able to escape out a rear door, says police.
Officials say the suspect fired a second shot, threatened the employee that had been dragged to the back and then fled from the building without taking any money.
The suspect has been described as a black male, dressed in all black wearing a mask and a zip-up hooded sweatshirt and armed with a black colored handgun.
Police say the suspect fled the scene in a black SUV with chrome wheels and a Pennsylvania registration. Investigators say there was a second occupant in the SUV and the first three digits of the registration may be "ERC."
Police say the vehicle fled the scene down Fitzwatertown Road and turned right onto Oklahoma Road.
Officials believe the SUV may have been parked on Carnation, Oklahoma or the entrance to Twin Brooks Townhouses before the robbery.
No customers were in the bank at the time of this incident.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen the vehicle to call 267-536-1100 or 215-418-4000.
