Atlantic County, NJ Sets Up Supplemental Food Help For Hurricane Sandy Victims

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- Beginning today, Atlantic County, NJ officials are accepting applications from people in that community suffering the most since Superstorm Sandy.
The federal Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as "D-SNAP," will provide a one-time subsidy for food for those forced to spend money on unexpected expenses related to the flooding.
In order to avoid everyone coming in at once, Atlantic County public information officer Linda Gilmore says they will only see applicants today whose last names begin with the letters A through E.
Those with last names that begin with the letters F through J should report on Tuesday. Wednesday is for applicants K-O, Thursday is for P-S, and Friday is for T-Z. Anyone who missed their regular day can come next Monday or Tuesday.
But Gilmore says the eligibility requirements are strict. You must bring identification, proof of residency, bank statements and pay stubs for the 30 days between October 28th and November 26th. Income limits for this time period range from $2,268 for a family of one to $4,034 for a family of four.
"It's not just those who have lost a freezer full of food because their power went out," she says.
Applicants should come to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City between 10am and 6pm.
