LINWOOD, N.J. (CBS) - Authorities are investigating a homicide inside an Atlantic County home Thursday afternoon.
Police say 47-year-old April Kauffman, a local radio host at WOND 1400 AM, was found shot to death in her home along Woodstock Drive in Linwood, New Jersey. A worker found her body in her bedroom at about 11:30 a.m. and called the authorities.
The victim's husband, Dr. James Kauffman, was spotted in the frantic moments as police arrived at his house. Neighbors say when he left her early in the morning, she was sleeping in bed with a pillow over her face.
The victim, who is known in the community as an activist, focusing on military and veteran affairs, suffered from multiple gunshot wounds, police say.
Fellow radio host Harry Hurley was shocked to hear of her death.
"It just leaves an empty feeling in your heart. You'll never forget just how much she meant to the community," said Hurley.
US Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) said in a statement, "Quite simply, April was a patriot in every sense of the word and her tireless work on behalf of those who served made a real difference in the lives of many."
There is no word on a suspect or possible motive at this time.
