Atlantic City Mayor Claims Victory In Democratic Primary
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — The mayor of Atlantic City, N.J., is claiming victory in a primary against two fellow Democrats, including a county official his party wanted to take his place.
Mayor Lorenzo Langford claimed victory Tuesday night before final results were tallied.
Langford has gained attention the past two years for his verbal fights with Republican Gov. Chris Christie, including during Superstorm Sandy last fall.
Christie's administration has been increasing its role in Atlantic City as the resort area has struggled with more than six years of declining casino revenue. Langford is a former casino dealer.
Democrats outnumber Republicans by an 8-1 ratio in Atlantic City so the primary was considered the key election fight.
