At Long Last, Camden, NJ Gets A New Supermarket

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- A supermarket opens tomorrow in Camden, NJ, a city that's been without one for more than a year.
The new PriceRite, on Mt. Ephraim Avenue, fills a huge food void in Camden: the city has been without a supermarket since Pathmark left, more than a year ago.

Pastor Odessa Edmond said she appreciated the fresh stock of produce.
"We have fresh fruits and vegetables. And we need that for a healthy diet. And it's so amazing just to see it on the shelves!" she said.
PriceRite is a no-frills, bring-your-own-bag market that doesn't advertise or accept coupons. The Camden location is operated by Ravitz Family Markets.
"We have Allentown and Bethlehem, but this is the first one in South Jersey," said vice president Shawn Ravitz. "It blows my mind that apparently it's been somewhere between 30 and 40 years since a new (grocery) store has opened in Camden," he added.
The store employs 80 union workers.
