Astronauts Answer Questions From Local Kids During Live Video Chat
By John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Astronauts on board The International Space Station took a break Tuesday to answer questions from children who particpated in a one day program at Philadelphia University.
One question came from 17-year-old Edward Walcott of the Wissahickon Boys and Girls club who asked, 'What do you do if someone gets really sick on the space station?"
After a couple seconds of delay, Astronaut Don Pettit gave an answer, as a couple hundred kids looked on during their live video chat with the three International Space Station astronauts.
"If someone gets really sick, which fortunately doesn't happen, we first off call the ground where there is a flight surgeon on call and we work with the medical kits we have on station."
Central High school student Tracy Rilley took away an important message.
" If you work hard," she said, "you can achieve your dreams cause he said he had to work really hard so I guess if you really put your mind to it you can achieve what you want."
There are only six video downlinks nation wide selected by NASA's teaching from space program.
Destination Imagination co-hosted the event.
