Assistance Available For Philadelphia Victims Of Tropical Storm Lee

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Homeowners, renters and business owners in Philadelphia have been made eligible for federal assistance to help recover from the affects of Tropical Storm Lee, which inundated the area with rain and flood waters earlier this month.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is strongly encouraging anyone who has suffered damages during Tropical Storm Lee to apply for aid, which can help with a number of different disaster related expenses.

"Don't count yourself out," says That's Eugene Brezany, a public affairs officer with FEMA. " If you've been impacted by the storm, if you have damage to your home or to your apartment, to your vehicle. If you've been put out of work because of the disaster, let us see what federal assistance we can bring to bear on the situation."

"Funds are available for people to make repairs to their home, to make the home livable or to rent alternate accommodations. Perhaps additional funding would be available for other needs not covered by insurance."

And this assistance is also available for renters, "Not to make repairs to a piece of property they don't own, but to rent alternate accommodations."

You can apply for aid by calling 1-800-621-FEMA, or by going online to DisasterAssistance.gov

The disaster phone lines are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
