Assessment Crews Tally Cost Of Storm Damage In South Jersey
By David Madden
ATLANTIC COUNTY, NJ (CBS) - Assessment teams are fanning out across three South Jersey counties ravaged by last week's storms.
As the last several thousand electric customers are put back on line, 10 crews are out with notepads in hand.
"We have four teams in Atlantic County, four teams in Cumberland County and two teams in Salem County," says State Police Lt. Jeff Mottley, with the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management.
They're evenly split between checking public infrastructure and private homes and businesses, save for Salem County, where assessments are restricted to roads, bridges and such.
Lt. Mottley expects those crews to finish their disaster assessments in a few days.
"We will take a look at the monetary value of the damages and then put together a package for the Governor's office to make a Presidential request for a declaration."
If your property was damaged, your first step should be to contact your town hall or county emergency management office.
