Asociacion Puertorriquenos En Marcha Celebrates 40 Years In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – An organization that has worked for 40 years to improve North Philadelphia celebrated with a major event at Temple University Saturday night.
Asociacion Puertorriquenos en Marcha, or APM, has been working since 1970 to improve the area of North Philadelphia, east and south of Temple University.
Executive Director Nilda Ruiz says APM has built 138 houses, 210 apartments, a retail plaza, and a supermarket:
"Now we're trying to change their behavior and getting them to understand more about greening and being good to the environment. And we're also building a transit oriented development at 9th and Berks, trying to get folks to walk more, to ride their bikes more."
