As Philly Temperatures Soar, So Do Ice Cream and Water Ice Sales
By Paul Kurtz
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The temperature for early April feels more like early July (see related story), and that was luring a lot of people outdoors today in search of cool refreshments.
It wasn't too long ago that we were scraping ice off our windshields. Now, we're eating it! Of course, I'm talking about water ice and ice cream.
Here at Franklin Square, people were out in force today. John Jowanna (top photo) picked up an ice cream cone, without sprinkles, he noted, because he had already had eaten lunch.
It's a similar scene at John's Water Ice, in South Philly.
"Everything goes with the weather," says owner Anthony Cardullo, "so on hot days this just makes us busier. We're gonna start getting busy probably about 2:00. It will die down around dinnertime, and we'll probably have a steady line from like 6:30 till 9."
