As Host State for Super Bowl, NJ Officials On Alert For Human Sex Trafficking

By David Madden

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- New Jersey officials today marked the recent passage of "Human Trafficking Awareness Day" (January 11th) with a noontime conference in the state capitol.

The problem has been a priority in New Jersey for a few years now, say law enforcement officials, and with the Super Bowl just around the corner, concerns rise that sex workers will be brought in, many against their will.

Elie Honig, director of the state's Division of Criminal Justice, says cops won't be the only ones with eyes peeled.

"We have reached out and trained everyone -- from cab drivers to airport workers, hotel, hospitality, (workers at) rest stops,  EMTs -- literally thousands of non law enforcement people, so they know what to be on the lookout for," he told KYW Newsradio today.

And if you have any suspicions about anything you see, even in the southern part of the state, you can call 1-855-END-N-J-H-T.
