Area Red Cross Launches Campaign Highlighting Home Fire Relief Efforts
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The southeastern Pennsylvania chapter of the American Red Cross is launching a campaign to raise funds it will use for a program that aids fire victims.
Today, the Red Cross showed off a re-creation of a home fire scene, designed with the help of the Philadelphia Fire Department, that will be on display in Septa's Market East station for the rest of the month.
Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes (below right), chief executive officer of the local Red Cross chapter, says the home fire relief campaign is aimed at helping the organization fund services it provides to those people who are most vulnerable.
Often, Hughes says, the Red Cross is the fire department's partner in providing services.
"We're going to wrap a blanket around you, we're going to give you a cup of coffee. And then we're going to talk to you and find out what you need. Some families, they just need a place to sit and be comfortable until a loved one can come get them. Some families have nowhere to go. And, we're going to provide whatever those families need," she said today.
