Are You Ready To Adopt A Pet?
By Nan Talleno
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Adopting a dog is truly gaining a new loving family member - in your heart and your home. This requires dedication, responsibility and commitment. Everyone in the home needs to be in accordance with the idea. If not, this can reflect on the dog in an unfair way and induce negative behavioral issues in the future.
When you are ready, stop by your local animal shelter or rescue organization.
Make preparations ahead of time to provide all the proper necessities. Make sure to "puppy proof" your home no matter what age of dog or cat you adopt to keep your new best friend safe. If you already have animals in the home, create a pleasant initial introduction on neutral territory to induce a positive response. When choosing your new companion, don't be biased on age, size, breed or fur color of the available dogs and cats; you would be doing yourself a great disservice and unfairly judging a loveable animal.
You have a chance to find your new best friend this weekend! Join me Sunday, February 23rd for Cupids and Canines, at Camp Bow Wow in Cherry Hill New Jersey. It's their third annual adopt-a-thon from 12pm to 3pm at 3 Esterbrook Lane. You'll find over ten rescue organizations and shelters with loveable dogs available looking for forever homes.
