Archbishop Ryan Student Struck, Killed By Car In Front Of School
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Family, friends and classmates are mourning the death of a teen who was struck and killed by a car outside a high school in Northeast Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon.
The 15-year-old freshman's dad is a Philadelphia Police Detective, and as Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said, "no parent should have to ever bury a child."
Fellow freshmen at Archbishop Ryan High School describe Tim Connors as a quiet kid who kept to himself.
"I grew up with him. I understood him and stuck up for him, and been there with him. He was like a little buddy," tearful friend Sara Zimmaro said.
Connors was killed Tuesday afternoon as he left school. He was hit by a car as he was crossing Academy Road. Police interviewed several people who witnessed the collision.
Connors was rushed to the Aria Health's Torresdale campus where he was later pronounced dead.
His father is a detective in the southwest district.
"We are here for support for the family and whatever they may need. He's got a lot of support in his squad," F.O.P. President John McNesby said.
The female driver who hit Connors at around 3:30 p.m. did stop, and is cooperating with police.
"The driver did stop. That is not an issue. Obviously the driver is pretty distraught as well," said Ramsey.
Classmates already dedicated a Facebook page to Connors.
Connors enjoyed swimming and tennis. Science was his favorite subject.
"He had a lot of potential. He was a good kid," friend Vince Madle said.
The investigation is just getting started, but as things stand now, it appears this was just a horrible accident.
