Archbishop Ryan, Holy Family Announce Unique Partnership
By Michelle Durham
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Archdiocesan officials announced Wednesday that starting in the fall, Archbishop Ryan High School seniors will have the opportunity to take college level courses taught by Holy Family University professors on the Ryan Campus.
The courses will come at a reduced rate.
Jim Meredith, Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs at Archbishop Ryan, says the opportunity doesn't end there.
"Ryan students are going to be accepted to Holy Family through a streamlined acceptance process. Waive the application fee and eligible for partnership scholarships. So it's a great opportunity for our kids."
So far, 76 Ryan students have applied for the courses which run the gamut from early childhood development, to criminology to communications.
Sister Francesca Olney, President of Holy Family University, says the rising costs of college may put it out of reach for some families, so she wants to make it more affordable.
"That's what it's all about, family. It's the community, the students we have. And it's very important to substantiate what you say in your mission statement, and that's family."
Faculty and staff can also take courses at a reduced rate.
