GLENSIDE, Pa. (CBS) -- Arcadia University has dumped its president, without explanation.
The board of trustees voted last Friday to oust Carl Oxholm III, but the university waited five days to release a statement, which included very few details.
The statement says vice president Nicolette DeVille Christensen has been named chief operating officer, assuming all the president's responsibilities.
Christensen, the statement said, has been leading the College of Global Studies and is a recognized leader in international education.
No explanation was given for Oxholm's ouster after less than two years. Oxholm could not be reached for coment but told the Philadelphia Inquirer, in a statement, that he was surprised and disappointed and had not even been given a chance to say goodbye to students and staff.
