Apple Store Opens in Center City
It's been rumored for years, but center city Philadelphia finally has its very own Apple Store.
KYW's Jim Melwert reports the doors opened at 6pm, with the first 1,000 customers getting a free t-shirt.
A line stretched two blocks and Steve Petofsky was first in that line:
"I was around here 4:00am making sure nobody was camping out."
Fortunate for Steve there wasn't, so he started the line at 11am, only waiting about 6 hours for doors to open:
"I've been waiting ten years for this store, since they first opened an Apple store in April of 2001 and it's long overdue."
The new store at 1607 Walnut Street's exciting for city residents because now they say they won't have to hike out to the suburbs for the next big Apple release.
And Joe Butash, who lives nearby, says it could help the area too:
"I know there's been a lot of sadness with Le Bec Fin closing, a lot of the store fronts are closing here on Walnut Street, and this definitely is going to draw more people downtown."
