Apple Racks Up Ten Million iPhone 6 Sales in First Three Days

CUPERTINO, Calif. (CBS) -- Apple is selling a record number of new, larger-screen models of its already ubiquitous iPhone.
The company has racked up ten million sales of its new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in three days on the market.
"This follows a pattern," says Dana Wollman with Engadget.com, pointing out that more buyers hop on the Apple bandwagon with each new handheld the company offers.
"The iPhone 5 hit five million in that same [three-day] period. The 5S and 5C hit nine million," he notes, which includes sales in China.
The 6 and 6 Plus sales figure, which is higher than analysts expected, doesn't include China.
"It's actually not on sale in most of the places it's ultimately going to reach," Wollman tells KYW Newsradio.
Android dominates Apple when it comes to smartphone market share worldwide, but the iPhone is by far the best-selling device in the US.
With the larger-screen iPhone 6 models already in so many pockets, Apple enjoys an advantage over rival Samsung, which has only just put its latest Android-based Galaxy Note phone-tablet hybrid on presale.
