PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Philadelphia Police are investigating to see if drugs played a role in a deadly overnight shooting in North Philadelphia.
Police arrived to find a man dead from gunshot wounds in a third floor apartment near 15th and Poplar Streets. Crime scene teams combed the apartment for evidence early Thursday morning.
Police say two of the man's friends found him around 1 a.m., lying on the floor. They called 911, and medics pronounced him dead about 15 minutes later.
Chief Inspector Scott Small says police are treating this case as a homicide.
"For now, it's being treated as a homicide. Homicide detectives are processing the scene, they're knocking on doors in the apartment looking for any additional witnesses," Small says. "We're also knocking on doors in the neighborhood to see if anyone has recently heard from this 24-year-old male who reportedly lives inside of the apartment."
Police say there was one spent shell casing near the body from a semi-automatic gun.
