Anti-Bullying Seminar Held At School In South Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A South Philadelphia Charter School held a seminar for 5th and 6th grade students to teach them how to spot bullying and what steps they can take to counteract it.
The seminar at Universal Charter School was conducted by Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Psychologist Dr. Stephen Leff. He selected two students to sit on either side of a jar. One side was painted red, the other side blue, seeing the same situation from two different perspectives.
Rasheeda was one of those students.
"It was like showing how you need to see both sides of the perspective. You need to see both parts," she said.
Dr. Leff the role of the bystander is crucial.
"The bystander is probably the most important person or persons when it comes to bullying. If we can have them become leaders and step up to stop the bullying it can make a big difference to stop the spread of bullying in schools and in the community."
