Another Police-Involved Shooting In Kensington
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - For the second time in eight hours, Philadelphia police officers were shot at and had to return fire in the same neighborhood.
The latest incident occurred at about 2am Tuesday morning. There was a call about a shooting on East Ontario Street in Kensington. Officials say two plainclothes officers, driving in an unmarked car, responded after immediately seeing a man carrying a stainless steel .45-caliber revolver.
"The officers ordered the male, several times, to drop the weapon. The male pointed the weapon at the officers and fired at least one time," said chief inspector Scott Small.
Authorities say the officers then chased the suspect to East Thayer Street, where there was another exchange of gunfire. This time, the suspect (right) was outgunned and put down.
"The suspect was shot at least two times in the stomach. The suspect collapsed in the 600 block of East Thayer and he dropped his handgun," Small explained. Small said the suspect, later identified as Jose Delvalle, was in critical condition.
It was the second police-involved shooting for officers in the city's 24th police district in less than eight hours. (see related story)
