Another Philadelphia Cop Sentenced In Plot To Rob Dealers, Resell Drugs
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Despite an emotional show of remorse, a corrupt former Philadelphia police officer was sentenced today to nearly 13 years in prison for taking part in a conspiracy to rob drug dealers and resell the stolen drugs.
Disgraced former Philadelphia police officer Robert Snyder, 30, acknowledged that his crimes were egregious and despicable, and he broke down when he talked about the pain he has caused his family, especially his three young children.
"I promise to earn their innocence and love back once again," he read tearfully from a written statement. "From this day forward, I will try strive to gain the trust and respect of so many."
Judge Harvey Bartle III told Snyder that he had let down his fellow officers and betrayed the citizens of Philadelphia.
"Not only were you involved in the drug trade and conspiracy, but you also were involved in conspiracy to commit robbery, an attempted robbery, and using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence," the judge said. "It doesn't get much more serious than that, Mr. Snyder."
Others involved in the crimes include two other officers (see related stories) and Snyder's wife, who will be sentenced next week.
