PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Authorities always issue warnings headed into any busy holiday travel weekend, and state and local police usually step up enforcement efforts to help keep the roadways safe. Pennsylvania State Police have released statistics for this year's Thanksgiving travel period in the Philadelphia area, which again proved deadly.
Between the day before Thanksgiving, and Sunday, December 1st, state police based in Media investigated a total of 133 crashes, which lead to 41 injuries, and one fatality.
Authorities say of the 133-crashes, five were alcohol related.
Overall, state troopers issued 1,438 citations in Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties. More than 440 of those were for speeding violations, and 35 people were arrested for DUI.
Statewide, authorities say state police investigated 936 crashes, which lead to nine deaths and 236 injuries.
The numbers do not include numbers for local police departments across the state.
