Another Bear Sighting In Bensalem

By Matt Rivers

BENSALEM, PA (CBS) --- The search for a black bear in Bucks County continues after multiple reported sightings Sunday in Bensalem Township.

The chase has proven difficult for police officers and state conservation officers as the bear has eluded capture for several days (see related story).

A photo was snapped around midday Sunday of the bear wandering around a Bensalem apartment complex.

The first emergency calls came in around noon, and police immediately notified officials from the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Conservation officers scoured the neighborhood in an attempt to finally capture the bear that has remained elusive so far.

"We're nervous, but think about it from his point of view," said Danielle Edwards, a Bensalem resident, about the bear on the loose. "He's in a new surrounding, and he's probably nervous seeing all these people trying to find him."

Edwards and her kids drove around the neighborhood, hoping to catch a glimpse of the bear for themselves.

"It's interesting," she said. "You don't hear much about bears being around here, so I think it's nice to try to go find him."

She hopes they don't hurt the bear, but is a little on edge, as are other people in the area.

On Friday night, CBS captured an exclusive video of a bear amid some trees in the area. Officials are sure if it's the same animal, but they say people should be extra cautious until the bear or bears are caught. They say not to approach a bear if you do see one.

Officials are planning to tranquilize or trap the bear and move it to a less populated area.

Conservation officials have set up a bear trap as well. What's the best bear bait? This time, it's donuts covered with maple syrup.
